Considering Veterans Day

Members Only

Thinking of both my parents this Veterans Day, as well as all those who have and continue to give so much to us all.

My dad, who was a Major in the Army, served in the Intelligence Branch, and completed his service after re-enlisting during the Korean War. My mom, a teacher and housewife, was his partner and the quiet, steady, opinionated and sometimes sparkly person who took care of all the things of daily life, whether our dad was home or away.

We lived in California, Virginia, Austria, and North Carolina. My mom died on this day back in 1978. So I am remembering the people of my own life, those who created a warm home life and kept us safe. My heart is filled with gratitude for these things, large and small, which touch us all.
